What do we teach?

We exist to glorify God by building up His people to share the good news of Jesus Christ, to Mount Vernon and beyond.

Koinonia means fellowship. We began in 2015 as a small Bible study planted in partnership with the North American Mission Board, and today we are a church family committed to worshipping God, connecting as family, growing in Christ, and multiplying disciples for His glory.

Our statement of belief is rooted in the Baptist Faith and Message 2000, our core convictions about the nature of God, the authority of Scripture, the role of the church, and salvation through Jesus Christ alone.

But don't take our word for it, listen for yourself:

Never. We won't ask you to stand up, introduce yourself, or do anything you're not comfortable with. Just come and relax.

How long is the service?

The service runs about 90 minutes, from 10:30 AM to around noon. If you would like to stay, a potluck lunch and small groups follow and usually wrap up by about 2 PM, but you are always free to head out after the service.

Is there a program for my kids?

Yes. We have Kids Ministry through 5th grade and Youth Ministry for middle and high schoolers, with a secure check-in when you arrive.

Is there food?

Yes. Coffee and tea every Sunday morning, and a potluck lunch after the service. There is food at just about everything we do.

Do you have accessibility for the hard of hearing?

During the service you can read live English captions on your own phone, so you can follow along. They are generated automatically, so now and then they may mishear a word, but they keep you with the message from start to finish. If there is anything else that would help you join us comfortably, reach out before you visit and we will make it work.

¿Hablan español? · Do you speak Spanish?

How long has Koinonia been around?

2015

Koinonia began as a Bible study led by Pastor Cesar and Reyma Muego, in partnership with the North American Mission Board and Seattle Church Planting. What started with about 15 people officially launched on September 26, 2015 as Mount Vernon Christian Fellowship, with families from Oak Harbor and Mount Vernon joining together.

2019

The church grew steadily, baptizing new believers, planting small groups, and partnering with Oak Harbor Christian Fellowship. By 2019 it was averaging about 70 on a Sunday and had begun theological training through the Philippine Baptist Theological Seminary extension program.

2020

When the pandemic struck, the church pivoted to online worship, daily devotions, and testimonies. By God's grace the congregation stayed strong and giving even increased. Later that year the Lord provided a new home at 2111 Riverside Drive.

2021 to 2022

In-person worship resumed at Riverside Drive while the livestream continued. New believers were baptized, church camps came back, and discipleship deepened across the congregation.

2023

When the Riverside building was sold, God opened another door. The church moved into its current home at 2121 College Way and took the name Koinonia, meaning "fellowship." Attendance peaked at 230 during the 8th anniversary, and new outreach began, including Martha's Place and student ministry at Skagit Valley College.

2024

The church began intentionally training and raising up new leaders, deepening discipleship across the congregation for the years ahead.

Today

Koinonia is a multi-generational, multi-ethnic church family committed to worshipping God, loving people, helping believers grow, and making disciples who make disciples, giving glory to God for His faithfulness and looking ahead with faith.
